Sebastian Aho Making a Name for Himself in Bridgeport

Sebastian Aho is making strides in his game this year. No, not the one on the Carolina Hurricanes; Bridgeport Sound Tigers defenseman Sebastian Aho. Aho is having an amazing season for the Sound Tigers so far, so let’s take a look at what he’s done.

October 7th, 2017: Aho’s AHL Debut
You may be wondering why I didn’t put that it was his Professional Hockey debut, and the reason is, it wasn’t. He’s been playing Pro Hockey since 2012-13 at the young age of 16. He played five years in the the Swedish Hockey League, with Skellefteå AIK, scoring 15 goals and racking up 45 assists for 60 points in 152 games. He set career highs in 2016-17 with ten goals and 30 points in 50 games, finally getting drafted last June in the fifth round of his fourth year of draft eligibility. He signed a three-year, max entry level contract on July 5th. In his AHL debut versus the Binghamton Devils, Aho recorded a shot, but nothing more. We will see him start racking up points in the near future.

October 13th, 2017: Aho’s First AHL Goal and Point
In game number two of the season against the Charlotte Checkers, Aho scored his first AHL goal at 10:48 of the third period to make it a 4-3 lead for the Sound Tigers, and they never looked back, winning the game 5-3. It also happened to be his first point, but it definitely wouldn’t be his last.

November 5th, 2017: Hat Trick
The biggest game for Aho so far was his breakout game at the Providence Bruins. At 11:45, Aho scored a goal, his third of the young season, to make it 1-0. At 10:17 of the second period, following goals by Steve Bernier, John Stevens, and Mitch Vande Sompel, Aho scored again. The score was now 5-0 Bridgeport on his fourth goal of the year, and second of the game. Obviously, that wasn’t his last. At 10:08 in the third period, Sebastian Aho scored again, making him the first ever Sound Tigers defenseman to score a hat trick. The score was 6-0 on Aho’s fifth goal of the season. It was definitely a big day for the 21-year old Swede.
At this very moment, Aho has six goals and nine points in 11 games this season, leading all AHL defenseman in goals. He is fifth in points for defenseman, but is first in points out of all rookies in his position. Look for him to continue to be a very important piece on the Sound Tigers blueline and very possibly, in the NHL be the end of the season.
