The Islanders are coming off of two blowout losses, one against the Dallas Stars (6-2) and another against their rival, the New York Rangers (5-0).  Tonight, they look to rebound as they take on a struggling New Jersey Devils who are coming off of a 5-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens.
Tonight will be the second of four meetings between the Islanders and Devils as they met on November 3rd in Brooklyn where the Islanders defeated the Devils 3-0 for their fifth straight win.
Thomas Greiss was solid in net that game, earning his first shutout of the season and the Islanders’ second.  Jordan Eberle began the scoring, banging home the rebound on the power-play for his fourth goal of the season.
The score stayed 1-0 all the way through the second period but it took fifteen minutes in the third period for another goal.  It was Brock Nelson on a two-on-one with Anders Lee, and Nelson fired one passed Keith Kinkaid to give the Islanders a 2-0 lead with five minutes left.  Then, with thirteen seconds left and on the penalty kill, Scott Mayfield shot the puck 200 feet down the ice and into the empty net to seal the deal.
Only two points separate the two teams in the standings as the Islanders (10-8-2) have 22 points and the Devils (9-9-2) have 20 points.  Both teams look to get back on tracktonight.
