December 1st, 2018.

December 1st, 2018 is a day that will live in the history of the New York Islanders forever.  The Islanders, who after 1,329 days away from home, returned to Long Island after spending the last two-plus seasons in Brooklyn.

The Coliseum was packed. The arena was sold out, and with a capacity crowd, the Islanders rode to a sweet 3-2 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Islanders were back home at last.

However, could this create a toxic situation?

The team, which raved about the crowd after Saturday night, played in from of a silent Barclays Center crowd against the Jets. 9,125 strong didn’t live up to Saturday’s bar.

Does this hurt the Islanders? I am no expert, but I say it does.

Having such energy and emotion one night and then having none the next hurts morale.

Imagine playing in a”home” playoff atmosphere, and then two days later, playing at “home” without it. That is what the Islanders have to deal with for the remainder of the season until March where they will play all “home” games on the Island.

After Tuesday’s loss, the question remains: Will the Barclays Center hurt the Islanders in the long run?

  1. I’ve been to many Islanders games at Barclays Center and Nassau Coliseum. Barclays Center can definitely hurt the Islanders. In 2015 if the Islanders played at Barclays they would not of made the playoffs. The Coliseum was sold out for about half of the home games in 2015, and the atmosphere was great all season. Barclays on the other hand, doesn’t have much of an atmosphere. The Islanders at Barclays seem a step slow a lot of the game. At the coliseum, they are a step ahead the other team for a lot of the game

  2. Was at the Coliseum during the 15 playoffs. Never heard a building that loud. Then went to my 1st game at Barclays this past year. Most depressing in-game atmosphere I’ve been apart of. So quiet u could even hear the players breathing in the penalty box. Idk how they did it in the 16 playoffs but if they make the playoffs this year, put them back in the barn. Just add more seats and they’re golden
