Anders Lee is the epitome of leadership. On and off the ice, he represents his team with the upmost of respect. Hee has dedicated countless hour to helping kids with cancer and to helping find a cure for cancer. Between his annual Kancer Jam, and his many donations made, Anders Lee is a huge influence off the ice.
When Lee was drafted to the Islanders in 2009, he quickly wanted to find a way to help those less fortunate. One day, he came across a young cancer patient: Fenov Pierre-Louis.
Lee found video of Louis making a speech at the Third Annual Scotch Plains Kancer Jam. Lee immediately knew what he wanted to do and thus the Anders Lee Kancer Jam was born, with the inaugural event being held March 18 2017.
This event, which featured Pierre-Louis as a special guest speaker, Lee and other Islanders, raised over $100,000. This single event started to become an annual event, with the year after raising over $120,000.
Now players such as Henrick Lundquvist, Ryan McDonagh and Alex Killorn have since follow Lee’s lead and host their own Kancer Jam events.
After making his speech at Lee’s first Kancer Jam event, Pierre-Louis became close personal friends with Lee. He even made an appearance at an Islanders game and dropped the puck in a ceremonial puck drop.
Unfortunately, in 2018 Pierre-Louis passed away following his battle with cancer. Lee vowed that he would never forget Pierre-Louis and continues to work closely with the group “Friends of Fenov” in his honor.
Over the summer, Lee found himself teamed up with Kevin Shattenkirk, a defenseman of Lee’s cross-town rival the New York Rangers to host yet another Kancer Jam.
This event was hosted to help raise awareness and money for families effected by cancer. Together the two NHL’rs raised 30,198 dollars. During that day of fun rivalary, Islanders defenseman Thomas Hickey and fellow Rangers blueliner Brendan Smith found themselves making special appearances, playing alongside Lee and Shattenkirk.

Lee is known for his net-front presence and goal-scoring capabilities. But his contributions off the ice are fantastic too.
