Week Review:
The Islanders have been the victim of poor scheduling. The team played only eight games in the last three weeks. In that time, the team has shown signs of them playing like an elite team in a matchup against the Kings in a 7-2 win, but have shown signs of the “same old team” in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Panthers by blowing a two-goal lead in the 3rd Period.
Preview:
The Islanders will be playing four games this week.
This afternoon, the team will open up their week stretch by traveling the Philadelphia to play the Flyers at 1 PM, in the first game as part of a back-to-back series. The Islanders will look to rebound after a disappointing loss on Wednesday.
On Sunday, the Islanders will be playing on the back-end of their back to back by playing the Carolina Hurricanes in Carolina at 5 PM. The red-hot Hurricanes will be looking for revenge to the team that spoiled their home-opener.
On Tuesday, the Islanders will be visiting Pittsburgh to play the Penguins in a 7 PM matchup. This will the be the first matchup for the Islanders and the Penguins. The team will look to try to contain Sidney Crosby and the Penguins. The will be a good measurement of the team’s defensive-minded focus. I imagine Tom Kühnhackl will play against his old team.
On Thursday, the Islanders will be coming back to Brooklyn to host the Penguins in an evening showdown. The Islanders, who will be finishing off their busiest week of the young season, will look to defeat the Penguins in a post-Haloween showdown at the Barclays Center.
Players to Watch:
Anthony Beauvillier- Beauvillier has been quiet after being separated from Mat Barzal and Jordan Eberle. Beauviller, who has yet to register a point, was seen on Friday practicing with his old line. This is Beauviller’s chance to make a stance and impress the coaching staff.
Brock Nelson- Nelson is coming off what seems to be an annual tradition of a hot October. Nelson has four points in the Islanders eight games. It will be interesting to see if Nelson will continue his early success. Happy Brocktober!
