For the entire season, I picked a game that I thought would be the best game of the month.  In those games, the Islanders went 6-1-0 against teams like the Maple Leafs (2x), Devils, Capitals, Blue Jackets, Sharks and Penguins. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and review the game of the season.
Out of those seven games, my favorite game was the 6-1 win over the Maple Leafs on Feb. 28.  Yes, the return of John Tavares.
The game had a playoff feel to it as fans were tailgating all day long and screaming as loud as they possibly could just to taunt the former Islander.
The Maple Leafs opened the scoring in the first period at the six minute mark but three minutes later, Anthony Beuvillier finished off a 3-on-1 to tie the game.  It was all Islanders from there.
A three-goal second period catapulted the Islanders to a 4-1 lead going into the final frame thanks to goals from Anders Lee, Casey Cizikas and Valtteri Filppula respectively.  Nick Leddy and Brock Nelson added to the lead en route to a 6-1 victory.
Relating this to the present, Anders Lee is a free agent and will most likely be taking his talents elsewhere in the coming days. From Islanders fans everywhere, Lee’s return to New York will be much different. When Lee comes back to Long Island, the beloved captain will get the complete opposite reception.
