The name Joshua Ho-Sang is one that is infamous on the New York Islanders. And his journey through the NHL has not been an easy one.
When Ho-Sang was first drafted, fans were elated to have the young rookie on their team, a player known for his dangles, stick moves, goals and assists. He was just what the struggling New York Islanders needed at the time. Ho-Sang was a savior in the eyes of Islander fans.
Ho-Sang was also a fan favorite due to how personable he was with everyone he met. He took time to sign as many autographs as possible and take pictures with every child who asked for one. As a person, Ho-Sang was beloved by many.
However, the longer fans watched him on the ice, the more disappointed many of them became. Many felt Ho-Sang was too possessive with the puck, carrying it all around the ice only to lose it or turn it over. I witnessed this personally during overtime last season while Ho-Sang was up. It became frustrating and Ho-Sang found himself struggling to get a roster spot due to this.
When Ho-Sang was lucky enough to find himself on the roster, often times he refused to listen to coaches, shrugging away from I-pads and whiteboards when coaches tried to coach on the bench. Instead he chose to ignore their game plans for his own tactics instead.
In 2015, Joshua Ho-Sang was lucky enough to be invited to the Islanders training camp, only to be returned to his minor league team the Niagara Ice Dogs on the first day of camp. This was punishment due to the fact that he didn’t show up to training camp practice. Ho-Sang claims it was because he overslept, but coach Jack Capuano was not having it, and him and GM Garth Snow sent him down.
When Ho-Sang found himself on the training camp roster this season, fans became hopeful that Ho-Sang will finally find himself a spot on the roster for opening night. However, to the surprise of many fans, he was cut. He was placed on waivers a few days later, along with veteran defenseman Thomas Hickey and forward Tanner Fritz, and was cleared soon after. Fans were bittersweet: they were upset Ho-Sang was not on the roster, yet again, for opening night, but at least he was down in Bridgeport and would more than likely be called up as soon as needed.
That’s when things hit the fan. Ho-sang didn’t show up to practice, and declared that he wanted a trade.
Fans are now sick of the attitude and sick of the way Josh Ho-Sang is acting. With a veteran like Thomas Hickey being sent down to Bridgeport yet still finding himself with a good attitude in all this, someone like Ho-Sang should not be moaning and whining about the situation he is in.
At 23-years-old, it’s time Josh Ho-Sang to report to camp, keep up the pressure and prove people wrong just like his organization.
