Game of the Month 1/18/19: New York Islanders @ Washington Capitals Preview
Tonight, Barry Trotz makes his return to Washington, D.C. where he won his first Stanley Cup last year, as the Islanders take on the Capitals at 7:30pm. Both teams have been very good lately and are sitting in the top-three of the Metropolitan Division.
In their last 10 games, the Islanders have a record of 8-2-0 and have beaten the Toronto Maple Leafs and the league-leading Tampa Bay Lightning during that stretch. The two losses were only by one goal (4-3 loss to Carolina and 2-1 loss to Rangers). If the Isles pull away with a win tonight, they will sit atop the Metropolitan Division.
The Capitals however, are 4-4-2 in their last 10 games including two blowout losses to the Nashville Predators (6-3 and 7-2). Still, they are tied for the number one spot in the Metropolitan Division with Columbus.
This is the second night of a back-to-back for the Isles as they played last night at the Coliseum in a 4-1 win against the Devils. The Capitals though, were given two days off after a 7-2 loss to the Predators on Tuesday night.
