At around this time last season, the Islanders were pronounced dead by almost everybody. They had just lost their franchise player and only made a few small, subtle moves to try to add depth. But the Islanders would go on and over-achieve their way into the second seed in the Metropolitan Division and a second round appearance.
But during that second round series, and even throughout the season, we all saw that the Isles lacked one major thing… offense.
It was almost a given that Lou Lamoriello will make big moves this off-season, like landing Artemi Panarin during free agency. But all we got was Semyon Varlamov (so far) and we lost Robin Lehner and Valtteri Filppula.
With that being said, here are my way too early predictions for the 2019-20 season:
Record: 42-32-8
Points: 92
Eastern Conference Wild Card Predictions:
Metropolitan:

  1.  Washington Capitals
  2.  Carolina Hurricanes
  3.  New Jersey Devils

Atlantic:

  1.  Tampa Bay Lightning
  2.  Toronto Maple Leafs
  3.  Boston Bruins

Wild Card:

  1.  Pittsburgh Penguins
  2.  New York Rangers

_______________________________________
3.  New York Islanders
4.  Florida Panthers
5.  Montreal Canadiens
6.  Buffalo Sabres
7.  Detroit Red Wings
8.  Philadelphia Flyers
9.  Columbus Blue Jackets
10.  Ottawa Senators
With the offseason the Islanders have had and how competitive the Metropolitan Division is, I don’t see the Islanders making the cut. Hopefully, like they did to all of us last season, they prove us wrong.
