The Bridgeport Sound Tigers have gone through their fair share of uniforms. Some are good, some are ugly, and some mirror the Islanders. In this article we’ll discuss the best home, away, and third uniforms in Sound Tigers history, from the classic Blue Tiger days up to the modern sweaters that mirror those of the Islanders.

The 2006-07 season marked the kick-off of the rebranding that closely resembles the Islanders. The Sound Tigers continued with their classic blue look for the first two seasons after the purchase by the Islanders, but ultimately switched to a style closer to what they wear now.

These were very unpopular with the entire Islanders fanbase, and Sound Tigers supporters certainly felt the same resentment. These simply didn’t look good. However, they did turn a negative into a positive, as the team did use these jerseys following the Sandy Hook school shooting to honor the people that were lost in the massacre. The players wore the jersey with the names of the children who had lost their lives, with the names of the adults honored on the ribbon board.
Like all Islander fans, I absolutely hated these. They did not look good on ice, and of course they were a very emotional jersey as the Sound Tigers decided to use these jerseys to honor the 20 children who were killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting. The school had been a long time partner of the team as they had done many community events with the school. The 6 adults who were killed were honored on the ribbon board above the video board.  While the names of the children were put on the back of the jersey.  While this was a very cool move, the Sound Tigers players were emotionally shaken by the names being on their back. The team was set to wear the uniforms for the entire month of January, each night they would honor a victim, and following the month, the jerseys would be given to the families of the victims. But after the first game, the team decided that it was too emotional and they
would retire the uniforms.

Casey Cizikas, Aaron Ness, Nino Niedereitter, Calvin de Haan, Brock Nelson among others were those to wear the uniforms.

10. 2007-09 Away Jerseys

These jerseys came out during the Reebok Edge era, which the majority of hockey fans agree was an era of hideous sweaters. The second Orange Tiger jersey that was released was no exception.

9.  2006-07 Home Jerseys

These jerseys were originally used in 2004 for the “Islanders Nights”, where the team wore similar uniforms to the Islanders. However, these uniforms had a minor difference with the right shoulder patch, which it says “Sound Tigers”, instead of the classic “BST” tiger paw. These came off bland and unimaginative.

These home and away uniforms come up in a tie. While they don’t look bad at all, they had to give up the unique identity of the Sound Tigers. Whenever an affiliated minor-league team gives up their identity for their parent club, it takes away from the community spirit of the team. This is an example of this, so it would be a positive move for the Sound Tigers to go back to their old look like other minor-league teams are doing across the sports world.

6.  2008-09 Home Jerseys

A pretty sleek look for the Sound Tigers, they were used as a co-home jersey as it shared time with our #5 top jersey in Sound Tigers history. These maintained a unique style from the Islanders, which helped its case, such as the orange on the sleeves. These utilize a shade of orange that pops a bit more than those of today.

These are the most beloved jerseys for some Sound Tigers fans. The bright orange sweaters were worn for select road games and the majority of home games, unless they caused kit clash. These would be faded out by the team, however, as the whites above would be featured more often.

Raffi Torres after scoring the greatest goal in Sound Tigers History, a goal which would send the team to their only Calder Cup Finals.

These were the original jerseys for the squad. The blue complemented the yellow well, which gave them one of the most iconic Sound Tigers looks. These would become the jerseys used for the first five seasons for the new team. These always bring back good memories from the days of DiPietro, Gervais, and the famous Torres goal. The jerseys would become a staple all around Fairfield County.

A familiar look to the team, as we will see later in this countdown, the orange and blue mesh well together. This also brings back memories, such as Wade Dubielewicz wearing this during the AHL All Star Game and seeing future Sound Tiger Matt Lashoff pull off an incredible move.

These were the first jerseys to ever be worn by the Sound Tigers. The classics also follow the complementary blue and yellow color scheme, which were used as their main away jerseys for their first
two seasons of existence. In 2005, they began to use them as their alternates, and they came to retirement at First Responders Weekend that same year.

1. 2003-2006 Alternate/Road Jerseys

In the 2003-04 season, the Sound Tigers released a jersey which resembles the orange Islanders alternate jerseys. These were the cleanest look in team history, they should bring this jersey back in
some form, either as a one-night throwback or alternates for a whole season. They were originally released as the alternates and would be promoted to road uniform for the next two seasons.
The jerseys went through three different number styles on the jersey, with white and black, white and yellow, as well as all black lettering and numbering.
