Islanders Keep “Captain Loyalty” Anders Lee - Drive4Five
Islanders Keep “Captain Loyalty” Anders Lee

The New York Islanders almost had the same scare from the hysteria of July 1, 2018 this offseason with Anders Lee. Anders Lee has been a member of the Islanders since the 2012-13 season. He was named the 15th captain of the New York Islanders back in the beginning of the 2018-19 season due to his charisma of leadership, sportsmanship and loyalty to the organization. The alternate captians that stand beside Lee are Josh Bailey, Cal Clutterbuck and Andrew Ladd.

Lee almost became a free agent this past July but Lou Lamoriello was able to sign him before he jumped ship. Isles fans feared that July 1 was going to be a repeat meltdown from 2018, but thankfully, it was not. Lee was given a seven-year, $49 million contract.

In his previous season, Lee put up 28 goals and 23 assists giving him 51 points in the regular season. He appeared next to Mat Barzal and Jordan Eberle frequently throughout the season. The chemistry between Lee, Barzal and Eberle showed by the line clocking out of the regular season with 150 points combined. Lee’s best season took place in 2017-18 when he put up 40 goals in 82 games. His chemistry with Tavares helped push him to having his best season.

Lee can have a repeat of that year this coming season. He will be seen on the first line next to Barzal with Eberle or Bailey. Last season, he gathered 51 points. He scored 28 goals in 82 games, but he can do better.

Captain Lee is back and skating with his teammates to prepare for the training camp taking place soon at Northwell Health Ice Center. Lee is stress-free knowing he is on the ice with a fresh contract in place. He is excited to be returning to the Island and to be with the team for the long run.
