Throughout their 47-year history, the New York Islanders have had a lot of players, 561 to be exact. They’ve worn many different numbers on their backs to help fans identify them. Today, we continue our quest to find the best Islander to wear every number. If you missed the first edition counting down 99-70, feel free to view it here. Once again, if a number is not listed, no Islander has ever worn it in the regular season.

68: Ziggy Palffy 1993-95

A second-round pick in 1991, Palffy wore 68 in his first two seasons on the Island before switching to 16. He put up 10 goals and 17 points in his second season wearing 68 and is the only Islander to ever wear it. Palffy was moved in June of 1999 to the Kings in the trade that brought Olli Jokinen to New York.

67: Sean Bentivoglio 2009

Two players wore 67 in their only games as Islanders so it came down to who got more time on ice. Bentivoglio got 11:31 in his only NHL game while Mike Kennedy got 10:50 in his 145th and final NHL game.

66: Josh Ho-Sang 2017

One of the more polarizing recent Islanders draft picks is the only player to wear 66. He did so in 43 games over two seasons but all in the same calendar year. He put up 22 points in those games and is now assigned to the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL, albeit still as a member of the Islanders organization.

64: Sven Butenschön 2002-03

64 was one of three numbers worn by German defenseman Sven Butenschön over his two years on Long Island. He made the switch from 64 to 44 during his first season with the Islanders during which he played in 37 games and notched four assists.

63: Josef Vasicek 2007-08

The only player to wear 63 for multiple games in New York, Vasicek played out his final NHL season with the Islanders. 2006 Stanley Cup Champion had 35 points in 81 games during the 2007-08 campaign.

62: Olli Jokinen 1999-00

One of 10 stops in Jokinen’s career, he wore 62 after coming over in the aforementioned Ziggy Palffy trade. Jokinen put up 21 points in 82 games for the Islanders before being traded in the off-season, along with Roberto Luongo, for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha.

60: Kevin Poulin 2011-14

Poulin burst onto the scene as a mid-season call-up with a 7-4-2 record with a 2.44 goals-against average and .944 save percentage for an Islanders team that had lost 20 of 21 earlier that season. A freak injury in warmups in February ended his season and he was never the same after that.

59: Micheal Haley 2010-11

One of the legends born out of the 2011 fight night with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Haley wore 59 for two of his three seasons with the Islanders. He put up a whopping 94 penalty minutes in just 27 games while wearing the number, including a game-high 39 that infamous 2011 night.

58: Jesse Joensuu 2009-11

Another member of the Islanders during that fight night game, Joensuu wore 58 for 60 of his 67 games as an Islander. The former second-round pick put up 13 points in those 60 games before leaving for Edmonton as a free agent in 2013.

57: Blake Comeau 2007-12

A familiar face from struggling Islanders teams was Blake Comeau. A common running mate of young Josh Bailey, Comeau put up 121 points in 261 games before being claimed on waivers by Calgary during the 2011-12 season.

56: Tanner Fritz 2018

56 has been worn more than a handful of times for the blue and orange but never for very long. Most recently, Fritz wore it as a mid-season call-up in the 2017-18 season. He nabbed seven points in 34 games.

55: Jason Blake 2001-07

One of the top players for the Islanders in the early 2000s, Blake was a layer of excitement during hard times. He put up 20-plus goals in four of his five full seasons, including 40 in 2006-07, in New York after being acquired via trade from the Kings. His 69 points that year were a career-high in his last year as an Islander. Overall, Blake put up 119 points in 396 games wearing 55 on Long Island. Johnny Boychuk, the current 55, has had a big impact on the defensive end but has also had trouble staying on the ice in his six seasons with the Islanders.

54: Kip Miller 1998

Miller had three separate stints within the Islanders organization and wore 54 for the middle one. His nine games in the 1997-98 season are the most by one player wearing 54. He put up four points but was claimed in the waiver draft by Pittsburgh prior to the next season.

53: Casey Cizikas 2012-20

The first current Islander still wearing their number on the list, Cizikas has been a staple in the bottom-six and penalty kill for the better part of the last decade. The center of the MC^2 line, Cizikas is defensively responsible two-way forward who plays his role to the fullest every night.

52: Ross Johnston 2016-18

Known more for his fists than his stick, Ross “the boss” wore 52 for the first 25 games of his career. During that time, he racked up six points and 66 penalty minutes including four fights.

51: Frans Nielsen 2007-16

One of the greatest shootout masters in NHL history, Nielson wore 51 as a top penalty killer and top-six forward over 10 seasons with the Islanders. He played in 606 regular-season games over that span amassing 349 points including a league-high seven shorthanded goals in 2010-11. He was 52.6% successful in the shootout in the blue and orange as the go-to leadoff man. Nielsen left in 2016 as a free agent to join the Detroit Red Wings.

50: Adam Pelech 2016-18

Before being the godlike figure wearing number three we know and love today, Pelech wore 50 for three seasons. During that time, he had 31 points in 131 games and blocked 226 shots. The poke-master may wear a different number now but his origins lie as the only Islander to wear 50 for more than one game.
