49: Eric Godard 2003-06

A guy who spent almost as much time in the penalty box as on the ice, Godard played in parts of three seasons on Long Island. He was acquired for a third-round pick from Florida and finished with five points in 107 games with the Islanders. Five years after leaving, Godard played a role for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the infamous 2011 fight night.

48: Claude Lapointe 1997

Although more known as number 13, Lapointe wore 48 during parts of his first season on Long Island. He scored 13 goals in 73 games that year, the beginning of a seven-year stint with the Islanders.

47: Rich Pilon 1989-96

For the first eight seasons of his Islanders career, Rich Pilon wore 48. The former seventh-round pick played in 320 games during that time putting up 42 points. He wore number 2 for his final three and a half seasons on Long Island before being claimed on waivers by the Rangers.

46: Matt Donovan 2012-15

The most recent 46 in team history, Donovan appeared in 67 games between 2012 and 2015. He put up 19 points in that time and his final appearances as an Islander were in the 2015 playoff series against the Capitals. After multiple years, he worked his way back up to the NHL with the Nashville Predators.

45: Arron Asham 2002-07

Acquired in the trade that sent Mariusz Czerkawski to Montreal, the tough Asham played in 300 games over four seasons with the Islanders in the mid-2000s. He put up 105 points in that time and also racked up 315 penalty minutes. Like Donovan, Asham’s final appearances in an Islanders uniform were in the playoffs. He scored a goal in New York’s first-round series against Buffalo in 2007.

44: Calvin de Haan 2012-18

Shot-blocking machine Calvin de Haan played in six seasons with the Islanders. He blocked 687 attempts at the net during that time and put up 81 points in 304 games. The 2009 first-round pick left in free agency in 2018, heading to Carolina to join the Hurricanes.

43: Martin Biron 2009-10

One of two players in NHL history to wear 00, Biron wore 43 in his one season with the Islanders. The free-agent signing went 9-14-4 with a 3.27 goals-against average and an .896 save percentage as the backup to Dwayne Roloson. He left for the crosstown rival Rangers the next offseason.

42: Scott Mayfield 2014-18

Before wearing 24, Mayfield had the reverse on his back. He was back and forth between Bridgeport and Long Island throughout those four seasons, amassing 83 games and 22 points with the big club in the span.

41: Jaroslav Halak 2014-18

After his rights were acquired from Washington and tense contract negotiations, Halak became the Islanders’ single-season win leader with 38 in 2015-16. He played 59 games that season but was in more of a tandem role with Thomas Greiss his other three years on Long Island. Overall, he finished with an 88-65-19 record to go along with a 2.69 goals-against average and .913 save percentage. He moved onto Boston in the 2018 offseason.

40: Michael Grabner 2010-15

The last skater to wear 40 for the Islanders, Grabner was a speedy penalty killer with a knack for scoring goals. He scored 90 of them in 297 games over five seasons and won the 2011 Fastest Skater Competition at All-Star Weekend while donning the blue and orange. He was traded to Toronto prior to the 2015-16 season for a handful of minor leaguers.
