The New York Islanders have a deep prospect pool, especially when it comes to forwards. Today, the Islanders made sure three of their up-and-coming prospects- Félix Bibeau, Cole Coskey, and Blade Jenkins, will not be heading anywhere as they all signed their first pro contracts. Jenkins signed his entry-level contract, while Coskey and Bibeau signed one-year, AHL deals. All three are eligible to play for the American Hockey League’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers when their contracts kick in next season. Here is a breakdown of the three newest Islanders.

Félix Bibeau:

Félix Bibeau was selected in the sixth round (178th overall) in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and played in the QMJHL this past season. During the 2018-19 campaign, he won the Memorial Cup with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, scoring 28 goals and 69 points in 63 regular-season games, while putting up 14 goals and 29 points in the Memorial Cup run. Prior to the 2019-20 QMJHL campaign, he was acquired by the Québec Remparts, and he served as the captain there, scoring 17 goals and 35 points in 31 games. He was then traded to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens this past December and picked up where he left off with Québec, scoring 12 goals and 35 points in 32 games with the Sagueneens. The 21-year old center has combined for 84 goals and 214 points over 245 QMJHL games and coming off of his fourth full season in the QMJHL.

Cole Coskey:

Cole Coskey, the Islanders’ seventh-round pick (209th overall) in the 2019 Draft has made major strides over the past few seasons. Coskey is coming off of his fifth season with the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League, and he put up his best numbers yet. The 20-year-old set career highs in goals (34), assists (46), and points (80) in 62 games. He finished third in goals on the Spirit, and second in assists and points while finishing 18th in goals and 16th in points in the entire OHL. In 302 career regular-season games, Coskey recorded 106 goals and 235 points. He also recorded five goals and ten points in 21 playoff games over his five OHL seasons, including three goals and eight points in 13 games during the Spirit’s run to the OHL semi-finals last season. He is very familiar with a newly-signed Islander and a previously-signed Islander in Bode Wilde, as the Saginaw Spirit had three on their roster this past season.

Blade Jenkins:

That teammate of Cole Coskey’s happens to be Blade Jenkins, who also just put pen to paper signing his entry-level contract. The 19-year-old’s Islanders’ rights were set to expire next Monday, June 1st, and the Islanders didn’t wait until the day of the deadline to sign him. Jenkins was drafted in the fifth round (134th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft and had a tough year with some injuries mixed in. In 47 games, Jenkins scored 16 goals and 40 points while wearing an “A” in with the Saginaw Spirit, playing alongside Coskey and Wilde. Prior to joining the Spirit in 2017, Jenkins spent time with the US Development Program, with the USNTDP Juniors in the USHL, the U17 Team, and the U18 Team. Jenkins was named to the OHL All-Rookie Team in 2017-18, and in three seasons (182 games) with the Spirit, Jenkins scored 59 goals and 143 points, with all of his career-highs coming in the 2018-19 season, with 23 goals, 36 assists, and 59 points. Just like Coskey, Jenkins played in 21 playoff games, scoring five goals and 12 points, including all five goals and nine points in the OHL semi-finals run last season. Jenkins is taking this time to recover and get ready for the upcoming season.
