New UBS Arena Renderings Are Amazing

In the 2021-22 season, the New York Islanders will open UBS Arena at Belmont Park. It will start a new and exciting chapter in their history on Long Island. Early renderings have shown the ice and stands but that’s about it. Until now. New images give new perspectives of the concourse, scoreboard and even e-sports views.

The concourse looks like it will be huge with lots of open space. This is good news for those who pushed and shoved their way through Nassau Coliseum on many occasions. The open floor plan with lots of space is a big improvement and will allow fans to move around with ease.

Multiple levels that can be accessed by stairs and escalators reduce the number of people entering the seating area through the same entrances. Another picture shows arches decorating the concourse on what looks like the club level. The arches light up blue and orange when the rest of the lights are off which continues to swing the pendulum in the opposite direction from Barclays Center.

Fans will no longer have to see Nets logos at a hockey game, as they will get to see their team’s colors light up the halls on their way to their suites.

One image of the dynasty shrine shows an interesting new detail: the pictures appear to be curved so they can be seen from all angles, including the seats below. I also see the organ right in the middle of the pictures and a drum, possibly a nod to the Blue and Orange Army.

There are also a few more pictures of the inside of the arena including new lower-bowl angles. The seats will be blue but the front row seating seems very limited. It looks like some were taken out in favor of more entranceways on that level which implies a basement, probably not unlike the basement of the Coliseum.

From the lower bowl, we can see that the scoreboard will include screens on the inside so fans in the expensive seats won’t have to crane their necks to see the score or time.

What I thought was a concert setup at first turned out to be an e-sports tournament. This setup includes some interesting details as well. The boards stay up during this event although the ice is obviously covered and seats are added. What really struck me, however, was the section where the dynasty shrine is.

In this image, the iconic pictures of Islanders’ legends aren’t there but they are replaced by shots of the crowd, implying that those are screens and not giant banners. It will be interesting to see if the Islanders use those screens for anything other than the pictures that were shown in earlier renderings.

UBS Arena at Belmont Park is on track for the start of the 2021-22 season. Each set of renderings that come out only increases the anticipation across the Islanders’ community over the team’s new home and here will likely be more released of the concourse and other areas before the arena opens.
