Islanders NHL Reverse Retro Jerseys Are A Paradox
The Islanders and the NHL released their Reverse Retro jerseys Monday afternoon and the jerseys brought back classic looks from the older days. Some Reverse Retro jerseys were more popular than others. The Islanders newly released Reverse Retro jersey took heat from the internet as one of the more basic concepts, not adding any new flare or look to the Islanders.
Barstool’s podcast Spittin Chiclets, a new podcast that offers non-traditional commentary on NHL players and games, chirped the Islanders’ new jerseys, claiming that the “Islanders forgot the due date of the jerseys and just submitted the regular sweaters.

The Islanders criticism from fans all over the league is nothing new. From being ridiculed for poor management and coaching, and now to having a boring style or play, this recent criticism about the team’s new jerseys is the same old story.
Islanders fans understand the jersey is similar to their current set. So, the fact that the Islanders did not bring back their controversial “fisherman” jerseys or their old orange jerseys was a little disappointing to some fans.
However, Islanders fans should not be disappointed. Success on the ice is more important than jerseys.
Islanders fans should not be disappointed because their Reverse Retro jersey symbolizes something way more significant than just a blast from the past.
These were the jerseys the Islanders wore when they created the greatest dynasty in the NHL. The Islanders accomplished greatness in these jerseys before.
The jersey is simple and clean. It does not have much detail and allows its history to speak volume rather than the jersey’s actual design.

The jersey is a classic fit for a team returning to its rightful place as one of the dominant teams in the NHL.
These jerseys are also a classic look for a team that likes to keep things relatively mundane, starting at the top with management and transcending to the team’s playing style.
The Islanders players are not allowed to grow facial hair during the regular season. Why? Because Lou Lamoriello likes to keep it old-fashioned. The players’ clean-cut faces speak volumes and add prestige to the organization. Their playing style is boring as it is defensively-orientated and not meant to be fast-paced.
The Islanders are not a flashy organization or team and this idea is reflected through the their jerseys. A flashy jersey would not do the New York Islanders justice.
Do you know which other team is not known for having striking or stylish jerseys? The New York Yankees. The classic pinstripes speak volumes to their organization. It symbolizes Yankee dominance, and it is precise and simple.
The Islanders new Reverse Retro jersey will do the same, bringing another classic and clean look to New York.
