Islanders Look To Bounce Back Against Buffalo Sabres

Coming off back-to-back losses against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the New York Islanders look to get back on track against the Buffalo Sabres on home ice tonight. This game was originally scheduled for Feb. 2 but got delayed due to COVID-19 protocols.

The Islanders played a great one Saturday evening. However, they came up just short against the Penguins in the 3-2 loss. This isn’t a game that should be looked at negatively. They played well and can use this game as a momentum builder going forward.

Islanders Storylines

Islanders Hot Streak Against Buffalo

The Islanders have won their past five games against this Buffalo Sabres team. This will be their third match-up this season after they played on February 15 and 16. The Islanders have also recorded a shutout this season against Buffalo.

Semyon Varlamov Will Start

The last time the two teams played each other, Ilya Sorokin recorded his first-ever NHL shutout. The Islanders won this game 2-0. The team seems to play well against the Sabres and this is Sorokin’s favorite match-up also, as he played his best game against them this season.

Nonetheless, Semyon Varlamov will most likely be starting in goal.

Jordan Eberle Remains Hot

Jordan Eberle scored a goal two days ago, helping to keep the game close against Pittsburgh. Eberle scored his seventh goal of the shortened season, tying captain Anders Lee in doing so. Eberle has been playing very well this season. Scoring two goals in his past five games and picking up an assist, he looks to remain hot tonight.

Sabres Storylines

The Sabres haven’t had much luck in playing the Islanders this season. This will be their third meeting in the past eight days. The Islanders took the first two of their meetings, recording a shutout in the process. The Sabres will look to even the score tonight and try to overcome their conference counterparts.

The Sabres also won their last game on Saturday against the New Jersey Devils 3-2. They snapped a four-game losing streak in doing so and are looking to add to the win.

How To Watch

The game will be on MSG+ with puck drop just after 7:00 p.m. EST. The game will be played at Nassau Coliseum.
