Sound Tigers Beat Bruins With Help From Power Play

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers came away with a big come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Providence Bruins at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Massachusetts on Thursday. C.J. Motte got his first start as a Sound Tiger since April 17, 2015.  Dan Vladar started for Providence.

First Period

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers were still going through some penalty troubles. They took two penalties before Brady Lyle scored for Providence. Later in the period, Tanner Fritz tucked home a shorthanded goal, something Bridgeport has done a lot of this season. Joona Koppanen scored with eight minutes left to give the Bruins back the lead.

Additionally, Felix Bibeau dropped the gloves with Providence’s Alex-Olivier Voyer for Bibeau’s first professional fight. After the first, it was 2-1 Providence.

Second Period

In the second period, the Sound Tigers killed off two more penalties and C.J. Motte continued his solid play. Jakub Skarek, who started every Sound Tigers game until this point, was called up to the Islanders’ taxi squad, likely for NHL salary cap purposes.

Third Period

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers needed to score two goals in the third period in order to get the win. Bridgeport got a couple of power play chances in the period, and Simon Holmstrom ripped one past Dan Vladar about halfway through the period to tie the game up at two. It was the team’s first power play goal since opening night.

The power play kept rolling as Arnaud Durandeau slapped home his first goal of the season to give the Sound Tigers a 3-2 lead with under four minutes to play. The Sound Tigers escaped the New England Sports Center with a big 3-2 win and moved to 2-4 on the season.

C.J. Motte looked really solid for the Sound Tigers as he made 23 saves in the victory. The Sound Tigers will look for another win as they return to Marlborough next Thursday against the Providence Bruins.
