Rookie Sensation Wahlstrom Shines

Oliver Wahlstrom

Oliver Wahlstrom has been playing magnificently lately. He is on a five-game point streak with six points (3-3–6) in total. The 20-year-old rookie scored his fourth goal of the season on Tuesday night against the Devils and played a crucial part in that game, scoring the game’s first goal. He now has goals in his previous two games.

Islanders Look To Remain Hot Against Buffalo

The Islanders have faced the Sabres three times so far, winning all three. The Islanders have fared well against Buffalo lately, as the team hasn’t lost to the Sabres since Feb. 12 2019. The Sabres haven’t beaten the Islanders in either the Nassau Coliseum or Barclays Center since April 9 2016. With a lot of their players heating up at the right time, the Islanders will look to take advantage of this three-game set with the Buffalo Sabres.

Islanders Goalies Look Incredible

Whether Barry Trotz starts Semyon Varlamov or Ilya Sorokin, the Sabres will face stiff opposition in goal. Varlamov is now 10-4-3 on the season with a .927 save percentage. Ilya Sorokin last played and picked up a shutout against the Sabres in February, recording 20 saves. Both of these goalies have been tough to beat.

Sabres Storylines

The Sabres have struggled mightily in their last 10 games. Coming into tonight, they are 2-7-1 in that span. They have been playing lackluster hockey lately and will look to change that over the course of their three-game set with the Islanders.

Jack Eichel also returned to the lineup two games ago after missing the previous two with an undisclosed lower-back injury. Eichel had an assist on Tuesday and now has 15 points on the season. He is tied with Sam Reinhart for the second most points on the team.
