The Top-Five New York Islanders Jerseys

When it comes to the identity of an NHL team, jerseys come to mind as one of the most prominent parts. Every team has a unique design that represents its brand. The New York Islanders have had an interesting journey when it comes to their jerseys, most recently including the addition of their Reverse Retro jersey this year. Here are my top-five Islanders jerseys of all time.

5. Black Alternate Jerseys (2011-14)

In 2011, the Islanders released their black alternate jerseys, which was a rendition of their orange alternates that took the ice from 2002-07.  The jersey also includes an Islanders logo on the shoulder patch. The sweater features the “Islanders” name written out in orange letters, outlined by white and blue, and is the only jersey in franchise history to not feature a logo.

4. Adidas Third Jerseys (2018-Present)

The NHL announced in 2015 that they signed a seven-year deal with Adidas to make teams uniforms starting in the 2017-18 season. Prior to the 2018-19 season, Adidas created their new Adidas Adizero Authentic NHL third jerseys for teams around the league. The jersey uses the signature “NY” crest from prior Islander jerseys but modernized. The orange numbers pay tribute to when the team first entered the league in 1972, and Islander fans were happy to see them bring it back for the 2018 third jerseys as a nostalgic look.

Adidas introduced their new Adidas Adizero jersey designs in 2017. When they made the move, the Islanders did not change much when it came to their jerseys, as they continued the look that they had worn with Reebok from 2010-17. The jersey design is excellent and represents the team and Long Island very well. The Adidas Adizero look modified the old design for this generation, while the old Rebook jerseys had a more classic look to it.

2. Fisherman Jerseys (1995-1997)

Islanders' Reverse Retro Jersey Revives Fisherman Debate Among Fans

When it comes to some of the most iconic jerseys in the NHL’s history, one that sticks out is the Islanders’ Fisherman jersey. What represents one of, if not the, darkest times in the franchise’s history, most people associate this jersey with the Mike Milbury era on Long Island. Although the times were dark and fans hated the re-brand, there is something about these jerseys that fans just love. It’s not just Islander fans that want these jerseys back, it’s hockey fans all around the league People may not like it as a primary home jersey, but fans have really wanted them to bring it back as an alternate.

1. Stadium Series (2014-2015)

On January 29, 2014 the Islanders took on the Rangers in Yankee Stadium, NY for the 2014 NHL Stadium Series. The Islanders introduced their new signature “NY” logo with a clean chrome look to it. They have made many different renditions to the logo since, but this was its debut. The nameplates on the back had a white rectangular background allowing the names to stand out. The jersey also featured white on the shoulders with an Islanders logo.
