These Three Players Stood Out Last Week For The Islanders

The week of March 22 featured the Islanders going up against the Philadelphia Flyers, the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Islanders beat the Flyers and Bruins in overtime, but lost to the Penguins. Many players contributed to the success, but these three players stood out last week.

First Star – Anthony Beauvillier

Who else to start off our list but the man who scored two overtime goals last week? Anthony Beauvillier recorded four points, three of which were goals. Beauvillier finally ended his scoring drought and it could not have had come in a more important time. His two overtime goals lead the Islanders to two important wins over the Flyers and Bruins.

Second Star – Jean-Gabriel Pageau

What a week it was for Jean Gabriel Pageau. He continues to prove himself as one of the most reliable players in Barry Trotz’s system. Last week he recorded five points including one goal against the Bruins. Pageau has now recorded eight points in five games against the Bruins. But it wasn’t just offense for Pageau. He has continuously taken defensive draws against top lines or has been on the wing with Casey Cizikas and Cal Clutterbuck.

Third Star – Ilya Sorokin

Last and certainly not least is Ilya Sorokin. Last week against the Flyers, he extended his win streak to eight games. He allowed one goal on 37 shots, earning a .973 save percentage. While he lost the streak in a tough game against the Penguins, that should not overshadow what he accomplished. With his win against the Flyers he became the 23rd goalie ever to win eight straight games as a rookie in the history of the NHL.

Honorable Mention – Adam Pelech

What else can be said about Pelech that hasn’t already said about him? While only recording one point last week, he was still his dominant self. His defensive play was outstanding in shutting down the Bruins top line. But last week his development into being a two-way defensemen was on full display. His skating, passing and overall playmaking has improved so much this season. While he did not make the list of our three players that stood out last week, he was a close fourth.
