Kieffer Bellows Trade Could Be a Possibility

Kieffer Bellows could be traded if the Islanders strike another deal at the Trade Deadline.

This season, Bellows has scored three goals and recorded zero assists through 14 games. Islanders head coach Barry Trotz has scratched the rookie winger for 27 of the team’s 41 games. It’s been five years since the Islanders drafted Bellows, and he is now 22-years-old. He has had time to prove himself, yet never has.

This season was really his chance to shine. He got the start for seven of the first eight games, so clearly Barry Trotz was willing to give him a chance. During those games, Bellows did not register a single point and played relatively poor in the defensive end.

“He’s been in every meeting and every practice, so there’s no excuses,” Trotz said after one of Bellows’ worst games this season against Pittsburgh in Feb.

However, he had his bright moments.

Bellows was benched indefinitely until, during a seven game win streak, first-line left winger Anders Lee got injured. Although this was a tough blow for the Islanders, it was likely the best opportunity in Bellows’ young career.

He impressed. He scored three goals in two games against the New Jersey Devils in Newark. His game-winning power-move March 13 was perhaps his best moment in the NHL.

Nonetheless, he has found himself scratched again. And with the acquisition of Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac, the Islanders have no room for Bellows.

Therefore, he could be traded if Lou Lamoriello and the Islanders want to make another move.
