New York Islanders Put Rangers Out of Their Misery

When the New York Islanders faced off against the New York Rangers at the Nassau Coliseum for the last time ever Saturday evening, the blue and orange made history.

After years of battling the Rangers at the Nassau Coliseum, the Islanders had the opportunity to clinch a playoff spot against their foe.

The Islanders essentially eliminated the Rangers from playoff contention and clinched a spot in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third consecutive season.

At this moment in time, nothing else matters. The Islanders’ recent struggles, or the fact that the Islanders need to find their groove if they want to make a Stanley Cup run, do not matter at all. The only thing that matters is that the Islanders clinched, and in the process, basically eliminated the franchise’s biggest rival.

When the Islanders were moving to Brooklyn in 2015, the last game that was thought to be played between the Rangers and the Islanders at the historic Nassau Coliseum was on March 10, 2015, and the Rangers ended up playing spoiler and beating the Islanders 2-1.

However, the New York Islanders rewrote history Saturday by overcoming the Rangers. The younger brother has taken their spot on the throne and basically put the Rangers out of their misery.

The Rangers will be eliminated from the playoffs tonight if they lose in any fashion or the Bruins earn at least one point. It is over. And that is because of the Islanders.
