Jordan Eberle Needs To Lead Islanders In The Playoffs
Jordan Eberle needs to step up for the Islanders in the playoffs. If he does, they can go on a serious Stanley Cup run once again.
Jordan Eberle Lights Up Pittsburgh
In the 2019 postseason, Eberle led the Islanders to a first-round sweep over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Eberle scored one goal in each game and had two assists in Games 1 and 2. He finished the series with four goals and two assists.
He got three assists in the series versus Carolina but the Islanders got swept. Eberle and his scoring touch propelled the Islanders to a series sweep in 2019. Now, Eberle needs to find a way to start scoring in the playoffs or it will be hard for Islanders fans to see Anders Lee raise the Stanley Cup.
Eberle In The Bubble
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Islanders traveled to Toronto and Edmonton to play for the Stanley Cup. They left their families behind and put on a show for Long Island.
In the play-in round against the Panthers, Eberle scored two goals and had one assist in the four games. The Islanders won the series 2-1 and moved on to the playoffs.
Then, the Islanders took on their rival Washington Capitals. In Game 1, Eberle score late in the second to make it 2-1 Washington. It ended up starting a comeback as the Islanders won 4-2. Using their momentum from Game 1 the Islanders won two more and then won the series 4-1. Eberle had one goal and one assist in the five games.
Following that series, the Islanders took on the Philadelphia Flyers. Eberle did not score in that series, but he had five key assists over the seven-game series including one in Game 7. You don’t need to score to step up. You need to be a team player.
The Islanders moved on to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the next round. Eberle two goals and one assist in the six-game series. He scored the Game 5 overtime winner for the Islanders.
In the total 22 playoff games in 2020, Jordan Eberle had five goals and nine assists for a total of 14 points.
The Team Success When Eberle Is Hot
On April 1, 2021, Mathew Barzal had a hat trick as the Islanders won 8-4 over Washington. In that win, Eberle had two goals. It is pretty obvious when Eberle is on his game, the team is great. This team plays better when Eberle contributes and if they want to win a Stanely Cup he must step up.
How Leo Komarov Contributes To Jordan Eberle
Believe it or not, Leo Komarov has been sufficient this season playing on the first line. Since the absence of Lee, Komarov has stepped up.
Will Komarov be on the top-line come the postseason? Who knows? But what is certain is Eberle must step up once again to propel the Islanders on a Stanley Cup run.
