Before that let us quickly go over the major moves Lou Lamoriello and the Islanders made over the summer.

The Islanders started up the offseason by freeing up a combined $9.625 million in cap space, as they traded Nick Leddy to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft and forward Richard Panik on July 16, only to follow that up by trading Andrew Ladd, a 2021 second-round pick, a 2022 second-round pick, and a 2023 conditional third-round pick to the Arizona Coyotes the following day.

However, the Islanders gained $5.5 million in cap space.

The Islanders may have not had a first-round pick, but on July 24, the Islanders selected six players during the second day of the NHL Draft, headlined by the selection of Aatu Raty with the 52nd overall pick in the second round.

On August 6, the Pelech Posse had their prayers answered, Adam Pelech resigned with the New York Islanders on an eight-year contract worth $5.75 million AAV.

On September 1, the Islanders announced the re-signings of Anthony Beauvillier, Ilya Sorokin, Casey Cizikas, and Kyle Palmieri. Anthony Beauvillier signed a three-year deal worth $4.15 million AAV. Ilya Sorokin also signed a three-year deal worth $4 million AAV. Casey Cizikas signed a six-year deal with an AAV of $2.5 million. And Kyle Palmieri signed a four-year deal worth $5 million AAV.

To wrap it up, on September 10, the Islanders made their most recent official signing, finally announcing the signing of Zach Parise.
