New York Islanders Players Approaching Milestones
There are some players and coaches within the New York Islanders organization that can hit huge career milestones during the 2021-22 NHL season.
Josh Bailey: 1,000 Career Games Played
The long-time Islanders forward has a chance to play his 1,000th NHL game this season, a very important milestone for him and the organization. Bailey has played in 919 games, putting him only 81 away from the milestone. More importantly, all 919 of Josh Bailey’s games were with the Islanders. As he heads into his 14th season, he can only miss one game this season if he wants to reach the milestone in April 2022. It is definitely realistic, the 32-year-old will have to stay healthy. Still, he’s only missed two games in the last three seasons, both in 2021.
Barry Trotz: 900 Career Coaching Wins
One of the best coaches in all of hockey, and one of the best to stand behind the Islanders’ bench, can reach a milestone that all coaches wish to reach: 900 career coaching wins. Trotz has won 877 games as an NHL coach and is just 23 wins shy of joining the 900 wins club. Trotz is entering his fourth season with the Islanders and owns a 115-67-24 record with the club. He took the Islanders to the playoffs in each of his three seasons on Long Island, including two trips to the Conference Finals. A big season lays ahead for the Islanders’ bench boss.
Andy Greene: 1,000 Career Games Played
The long-time Devils defenseman, who is heading into his third season with the Islanders, can also achieve an important milestone this season. Greene has played in 988 games, 65 of those coming with the Islanders. Greene needs to only play in 12 games to reach this milestone. He will likely surpass that number before the end of the season. Greene previously signed a one-year deal with the Islanders in the offseason to stay with the team he traveled to the Conference Finals with twice. Game number 999 would be against the New Jersey Devils, should he suit up for each of the first 11 games of the season.
Casey Cizikas- 600 Career Games Played & 100 Career Goals
One of the longest-tenured New York Islanders players can hit two milestones in his career. The first is 600 career games played. Cizikas, who is entering his 11th season with the blue and orange, is 10 games shy of the 600-game mark. The other is 100 career goals scored. This one is more difficult for Cizikas as he is 19 goals away from 100 career goals. But it’s possible for Cizikas since he has once had a career-high 20-goal season.
