Islanders Extend Ryan Pulock To Eight-Year Contract

A night before their first game, the Islanders have already earned a win. The Islanders have given Ryan Pulock an eight-year contract extension worth just under $50 million, according to Darren Dreger of TSN.

The first five years of the deal include a no-trade clause and the last three years of the deal have a limited no-trade clause.

The Islanders’ top defense pairing of Pulock and Adam Pelech – which is widely regarded as one of the best in the NHL – is now locked up for eight more years (Pelech until 2029 and Pulock until 2030). Between the two defensemen, they are making just under $12 million. On the contrary, Darnell Nurse, Seth Jones, Cale Makar and Zachary Werenski all signed for $9 million per year or more each this offseason.

Pulock scored two goals and notched 15 assists in 56 games last season. The 27-year-old is a top-pairing, two-way force. He has not reached his ceiling, and with a full decade under head coach Barry Trotz, he should continue to thrive.

Pulock is best-known for his game-saving sliding stop of Ryan McDonagh’s spin-around backhander with just under three seconds remaining in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Semifinals at Nassau Coliseum. This save gave the Islanders second life and a 3-2 victory.
