UBS Arena Unveils Big Chicken, Veterans’ Seat
UBS Arena is going to have many special features but Big Chicken might be the most unique. This eatery is a collaboration between the New York Islanders, Shaquille O’Neal, JRS Hospitality and Blue Line Deli & Bagels. It is O’Neal’s New York debut of his new chain, which also is in Las Vegas, Glendale, California and certain Carnival cruises.
The new restaurant will sell “The Islander,” a sandwich which has fried chicken, Buffalo sauce, cream cheese and blue cheese on a blue-and-orange bagel. The bagels will be available at other food stands, too.
Additionally, fan-favorite bar Offside Tavern will have a location on the upper level of the new arena, delighting fans everywhere.
Food is great, but moreover, UBS Arena honor veterans. There will be a special seat dedicated to veterans and prisoners of war that will be a nod to the team’s old home, Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
UBS Arena will open on Nov. 20 when the Islanders play the Flames. But if you do not have your ticket, it will be a small fortune to get one. The average secondary market ticket price is $625.
According to TiqIQ, average price on secondary market for #Isles @UBSArena opener Saturday is $625.
As I’m sure you know, far better prices can be found for most of the rest of the games. But the opener is a very hot ticket.— Chris Botta (@ChrisBottaNHL) November 14, 2021
However, at the arena, there may be some issues parking. Charles Razenson and his wife, Helen, who was badly injured in a car crash, have filed a complaint with the state’s Division of Human Rights and Nassau County Consumer Affairs after being told they would need to park a half-mile from the arena.
“You’ve got people in wheelchairs and walkers that have to get on to a tram,” Razenson said.
According to Newsday, the parking situation is in its opening phase and there will be a detailed Americans with Disabilities Act plan before the home opener.
And finally, fans are still wondering if they can tailgate. UBS Arena listed on their website that tailgating, and honking, are not allowed, but many are planning on attempting to tailgate anyway.
