Islanders Outscored 32-7 In Eight-Game Losing Streak
Things are not going well on Long Island. The New York Islanders are on an eight-game losing streak and have been outscored 32-7 in those contests.
Currently, the Islanders sit dead-last in the Metropolitan Division with 12 points and a .353 winning percentage. The team has a record of 5-10-2. What has gone wrong this year?
- The Islanders are the 29th best team in the NHL. They have 12 points in 17 games.
- In the Islanders’ last eight games, they have lost 5-2 to the Minnesota Wild, 4-0 to the New Jersey Devils, 4-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 6-1 to the Florida Panthers, 5-2 to the Calgary Flames, 3-0 to the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-1 to the New York Rangers and 1-0 to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
- They have fallen five games under NHL-.500 for the first time since Jan. 16, 2012 (16-21-6).
- This is the first time in Barry Trotz’s career his team has lost eight consecutive games. He called this one of the biggest challenges he has faced in his career. During the losing streak, his team has been outscored 32-7. Those seven goals are the fewest the Islanders have scored in an eight-game stretch in their history.
- They have not led for the last 356 minutes of game action. Their last lead was against the Lightning on Monday, Nov. 15 — and it lasted for 23 seconds. Prior to that, their last lead was against the Wild on Sunday, Nov. 7.
- This is the first time the Islanders have started 0-4 at home in a season. It is the worst losing streak to open a new building since the Blue Jackets in 2000.
However, the season is still young. While the Islanders are on an eight-game losing streak, they still have time to catch up.
