Players On The Islanders That Could Be Traded
Earlier this season, we here at Drive4Five made a list of players that the Islanders could trade for at the NHL Trade Deadline. So, we have decided to make a list of players on the Islanders that could be used as trade bait. If the team continues to struggle, they could make moves to help their future. Here are some Islanders’ players that could be traded:
Semyon Varlamov
Since joining the Islanders back in 2019, Semyon Varlamov has been one of the best goaltenders in the NHL. However, the 33-year-old has started to show his age. In the offseason, Varlamov had an undisclosed injury that kept him out for the start of the season.
The Islanders could clear up cap space and get serviceable NHL-ready players in return for their veteran goaltender with Ilya Sorokin ready to take over as the starter. Where could Varlamov go? A possible landing spot is the Edmonton Oilers, who are always in need of stable goaltending.
Cal Clutterbuck
The fourth line is showing their age. It could be time for the team to move on from a staple of recent Islanders’ history. The easiest one to move right now would be Cal Clutterbuck. After this season, Clutterbuck will be a unrestricted free agent and the team could get a draft pick for the veteran.
Kieffer Bellows
It looks like Kieffer Bellows does not have a place on this team long-term. Barry Trotz does not seem to have a lot of trust in him and he simply does not produce as much as he should when given the chance. Therefore, Bellows will continue to be a part of trade rumors for the Islanders this year.
Summary
Considering where the Islanders are right now, it is possible that the team will miss the playoffs. And if their season does not improve, they could be sellers at the Trade Deadline. If so, Varlamov, Clutterbuck and Bellows — among others — could be on he way out.
