Get To Know Patrick Dowd AKA The Islanders’ Sign Guy
Patrick Dowd is a gem. There are few who are more kind, more friendly or more generous than the life-long Islanders’ fan who resides in Bay Shore, New York.
Dowd has been an Islanders’ fan since he attended the first game at the Nassau Coliseum in 1972. While it was a 6-4 loss to the rival Rangers, he fell in love — and never looked back.
Thanks to his famous signs, he has become a Long Island icon who has spread messages of positivity for decades at almost every single home game — whether at Nassau Coliseum, Barclays Center or UBS Arena at Belmont Park. Now, he is passing down the torch to his children.
There are four: Logan, Molly, Kailey and McKenzie. He calls it his greatest joy to share his love of the Islanders with his daughters, and attends almost every game with Logan, who even has a tattoo of her dad’s Always Believe sign.
I had the opportunity to speak with the man known as Sign Guy. He took me into his basement, showed me how he makes his signs and told me his favorite memories of being an Islanders’ fan. We pet his dogs, shared some laughs and even sang Oh Canada as Dowd shared what the Islanders mean to him.
I compiled all the footage and make a package that will help you get to know the Islanders’ most well-known fan. Do you want to watch the feature? Then don’t wait: click the link below.
