UBS Arena Guide: Best Food, Bars and Seats

UBS Arena is the home of the New York Islanders. The state-of-the-art building has countless amenities, but since it has opened in November, some have stood out more than the rest. In this article, I highlighted those things, putting together a guide to UBS Arena which features the best food, bars and seats in the building. Enjoy!

Best Food

Main Street Meats

Main Street Meats’ steak sandwich is one of the best sandwiches you can get in the arena. Located outside section 102, it is an expensive option, but the steak is juicy and tender — plus, it is hand-carved right in front of you.

Blue Line Deli

Blue Line Deli, founded by Donald Rosner, is a staple in the Islanders’ fanbase, and the roast beef sandwich might just be their best offering at UBS Arena. Also located outside section 102, the sandwich is one of the more affordable options at the arena. It has fresh mozzarella and gravy, and is served on a famous blue and orange bagel.

Shaq’s Big Chicken

Crispy buffalo chicken with cream cheese and blue cheese on a blue and orange bagel. It doesn’t get more unique than this. This one-of-a-kind creation is not for everyone, but if you love cream cheese and blue cheese, it is the perfect sandwich. Located outside section 206, there is always a long line — because it is the most popular spot for food at the arena. Additionally, while you are ordering, don’t forget your cookie, which is — no exaggeration — the size of a frisbee.

Mogu

Mogu is a Long Island company with an interesting backstory. They are the first modern Chinese kitchen to use air-baking techniques instead of frying. This makes the food lighter and healthier — therefore, it does not leave you feeling greasy. Located outside section 221, Mogu sells eggrolls, wontons, general tso’s chicken and more.

Hain Celestial

This is an unusual spot, but a very important one. If you are not in the mood for a full meal, but want a small snack, Hain Celestial offers healthy chips — like Veggie Straws — for a cheap price compared to other options at UBS Arena. Located outside section 121, there is never a line, and you won’t need to spend more than a few dollars.

Mighty Quinn’s

Mighty Quinn’s — which is also at Yankee Stadium and Prudential Center — serves fast casual barbecue. Their meats are slow smoked over oak, cherry and apple wood, creating an authentic experience at the arena. Located outside section 108, it is expensive, but their pulled pork, beef brisket, burnt ends and mac and cheese are worth the price.

Shah’s Halal

Shah’s Halal is a popular family-owned halal food chain with over 19 locations on Long Island. They serve a variety of options at UBS Arena — and they are all very, very good. Located outside section 107, if you are in that indescribable, but oh so familiar mood for halal food, this is the place for you.

Best Bars

Speakeasy Bar

The Speakeasy Bar is exactly what it sounds like. It is dark, tight and intimate, representing the illicit bars that came into prominence in the United States during the Prohibition era. Located outside section 101, you need an American Express credit card to enter, but if you have one, make sure you stop by.

Heineken Terrace Bar

Inspired by the rooftop terrace at the old Madison Square Garden II built in 1890, the Heineken Terrace Bar is something special. It is a party — fans flock outside to drink, smoke (not just cigarettes) and dance, as there is always a live DJ playing music. When you are outside, on the terrace, hearing the music and looking at fans smiling and cheering, you feel proud — proud that the Islanders finally have a stable home. Located outside section 202, this bar is perhaps the best part of UBS Arena.

Offside Tavern Bar

The Islanders made an effort to put local restaurants and bars in the arena. Offside Tavern Bar was a must-add. Located outside section 230, this bar brings back memories of playoff watch-parties at the Islanders-themed Manhattan bar last year — and serves all the beer you could ask for, too.

Belmont Hall

Want a place to go before or after games? Belmont Hall is the spot. On nights of games, the restaurant opens at 4 p.m. EST and closes at midnight. For day games, it opens at 11:30 a.m. EST and closes at 7:30 p.m. EST. Serving (expensive) menu items from iconic Floral Park restaurant, The Harrison, you can eat and drink all in the same spot — there is even a window dedicated solely to selling beer. To add on, the restaurant features wall décor, shuffleboard and dome hockey tables.

Tailgate Bar

UBS Arena has so many unique features, and the Tailgate Bar is certainly one of them. Located across the upper concourse in between sections 227 and 231, it spans across an entire end of the ice and offers great views of the game — there are tables where anyone can sit and watch the action. The 100-foot bar has any drink you could desire, and showcases logos from all of the Islanders’ fan meet-up groups from around the world, something no other arena in the NHL features.

Premium Bars

There are five bars for premium ticket buyers at the arena — the UBS Club, the Hyundai Club, the DIME Club, the Verizon Club and the Spotlight Club. They are all wonderful establishments, but they do feel a little corporate, and if you want access to them, you will have to pay up.

Best Seats

DIME Club

The DIME Club is one of the most popular clubs at UBS Arena. The seats that come with a DIME Club ticket are located behind the Spotlight Suites in sections 113, 114, 115 and 116. If you purchase these tickets, you will get center-ice seating, free food and non-alcoholic beverages and access to a VIP entrance. The food is amazing — they serve swordfish, sushi, sandwiches and have a Kosher section, too. The tickets are expensive, but worth it if you are okay with spending a little bit more money — of course, be sure to come to the game with an appetite.

Section 109

Lower bowl tickets right behind the goal where the Islanders shoot twice? Sign me up. Section 109 provides great views and the opportunity to see a lot of Islanders’ goals. If you can get tickets in the first row — they come with access to the Verizon Club — they are some of the best seats in the house. If not, this is still the perfect section for any Islanders’ fan.

Section 221

Hockey fans always have their favorite spot to watch a game. Some like the glass seats — some like the nosebleeds. But most people can agree that center-ice seats with the logo facing you are some of the best. Section 221 offers that perfect, symmetrical view that so many crave.

Section 329

The Blue and Orange Army is back at UBS Arena, with their own section. Section 329 is dedicated to the Islanders’ most popular fan-supporter section, right in front of the Tailgate Bar. If you can get a spot — it is rare, as the Islanders and Blue and Orange Army do not publicly sell tickets in the section — expect lots of cheers, lots of standing and lots of fun.

The 300s

The nosebleeds at UBS Arena are a lovely option to get affordable tickets to Islanders’ games. The corner sections of the upper bowl, especially, are always cheap — this includes section 301, 302, 303, 304, 309, 310, 311, 312, 315, 316, 317, 318, 323, 324, 325 and 326. So if you are on a budget, the upper corner seats are the cheapest option out there, and the seats are great, too.

I hope you enjoyed this guide to UBS Arena! Thank you so much for reading.
