Islanders Sign William Dufour to Entry-Level Contract

On Thursday, the New York Islanders announced that they have signed William Dufour to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Dufour was selected by the Islanders in the fifth round, 152nd overall, of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. This year with the Saint John Sea Dogs, he has 52 goals and 109 points in 61 games, leading the QMJHL in both categories. He passed Florida Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau’s record of 105 points in a single-season for the Sea Dogs. He also leads the QMJHL in game-winning goals with 12, tied for the lead with 17 power-play goals, tied for third with a +51, and is sixth with 57 assists.

The 20-year old has played for four QMJHL teams in his four seasons, recording 106 goals and 214 points during his time with the Drummondville Voltigeurs, Chicoutimi Sagueneens, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Saint John Sea Dogs.

Prior to the 2021 QMJHL Draft, the Voltigeurs traded Dufour to Saint John with a 2022 fourth-round selection (originally owned by the Acadie–Bathurst Titan) in exchange for the Sea Dogs’ first-round selection in this year’s draft, a fifth-round selection in 2023 and forward Simon Hughes.

He has scored multiple goals in a game 12 times this year, including scoring four against the Moncton Wildcats on Feb. 27, and a hat trick against the Halifax Mooseheads on March 6.

Internationally, Dufour represented Canada at the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge playing for Canada Red, scoring two goals in six games. He was also a candidate for Canada’s 2021 World Juniors team, but was cut from the final roster.

At the time of release, the terms of the contract are currently undisclosed, as is if the contract begins this year or next.
