New York Islanders Add Three Forwards, Place Anthony Duclair on LTIR
The New York Islanders made a flurry of roster moves this morning, which they announced via social media. To start, they placed injured forward Anthony Duclair on long-term injured reserve (LTIR).
Additionally, the Isles sent forward Liam Foudy to AHL Bridgeport. Finally, they added three forwards to their NHL roster: Matt Martin, Pierre Engvall and Hudson Fasching.
After Duclair’s injury in a game against Montreal, the team moved him to IR this morning (retroactive to Oct. 19). As a result, Duclair will be eligible to return on Nov. 14, when the Islanders face off against the Vancouver Canucks.
Duclair, who signed a four-year, $14 million contract with the Islanders this summer, has already scored two goals through the club’s first five games. Placing him on LTIR ultimately opened cap space for the Islanders to make additional roster moves.
First, Matt Martin signed off his professional tryout offer (PTO) and agreed to a one-year deal with the Islanders. As a veteran of over 950 games, Martin rejoins the team that he has spent most of his career with.
The Islanders likely signed Martin to add some toughness to a fourth line that has struggled thus far. In all likelihood, Martin will see limited ice time.
Meanwhile, the team called up forwards Pierre Engvall and Hudson Fasching. Many had expected Engvall to make the team straight out of training camp; however, head coach Patrick Roy initially decided to go in a different direction.
Now, with injuries impacting the lineup, Roy must call upon the experienced veteran. At his best, Engvall offers size, speed and defensive prowess. Still, he needs to find consistency to maintain a secure spot on the roster.
Fasching, no stranger to the bus ride between Elmont and Bridgeport, gets another opportunity to suit up for the blue and orange. Nevertheless, neither Engvall nor Fasching may see ice time Saturday night, as both forwards skated with Bridgeport just yesterday during their 8-2 loss to Charlotte.
To make room, general manager Lou Lamoriello sent Liam Foudy back to AHL Bridgeport. After a brief two-game stint, Foudy returns to the AHL squad, having recorded no points during his short stay with the Islanders. Foudy joins forward Julien Gauthier among the recent additions for Bridgeport.
The Islanders will play the second half of their back-to-back Saturday night when they face the Florida Panthers at UBS Arena. The puck is set to drop at 7:30 p.m., with streaming available on MSG Network and ESPN+.
