Comparing Islanders Players To Thanksgiving Dishes

As Islanders fans celebrate Thanksgiving and prepare their dishes for a magnificent dinner, the NHL season is just a few months away. On this festive holiday, let’s have some fun and compare Islanders players to popular Thanksgiving dishes.

Turkey – Mathew Barzal

The turkey is the staple of the Thanksgiving dinner. It draws all the eyes and is one of the best-tasting things on the table.

Mathew Barzal fits this description perfectly. He is everything the Islanders could ask for and more and just like he leads the Islanders, he leads our list of theoretical Islanders as Thanksgiving dishes.

Mashed Potatoes – Adam Pelech

Mashed potatoes are another staple. Every Thanksgiving dish has them and they are beloved.

Adam Pelech is the mashed potatoes of the New York Islanders. He certainly has been mashed up by Islanders fans critique and injuries in his career, but he is now one of the best defensemen in hockey.

Stuffing – Jordan Eberle

Stuffing is composed of herbs and bread used to fill the cavity of a turkey. While it traditionally needs the turkey, it can do its own thing and be the star of the show.

Jordan Eberle and Mat Barzal are a dynamic duo, but Eberle can do it by himself when needed. He had an unbelievable 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs and if he plays like that next year, he will be a crucial part of New York’s success.

Green Beans – Matt Martin

Green beans are boring, but when done right and given a little bit of help, they are divine.

There are countless NHL enforcers. However, few make the impact on and off the ice that Matt Martin does. He is our plate of green beans with almonds (Cal Clutterbuck) and butter (Casey Cizikas): you don’t think they will be that great, but man they are good.

Brussel Sprouts – Michael Dal Colle

Most people hate brussel sprouts. These controversial vegetables are the enemy of many Thanksgiving dinner guests.

But when you take brussel sprouts for what they are — a healthy and hearty vegetable — they are actually quite good. Michael Dal Colle may never be a top player, but he provides immense value in a bottom-six, checking role. So, while some hate Dal Colle and their brussel sprouts, others secretly crave them.

Gravy – Barry Trotz

Gravy makes everything better and covers up some dishes that need a little more.

The Islanders do not have a great roster on paper, but they are one of the best teams in hockey. Why? They have the gravy… and that gravy is the best coach in hockey, Barry Trotz.
