WHL Jersey Rankings From Worst to Best

In this article, the jerseys of the 22 teams in the WHL will be ranked. These jerseys are often worn by some of the best players-to-be in the NHL. These WHL jersey rankings are the second part of this series, so check out our OHL jersey rankings, and be alert for QMJHL jersey rankings coming soon! Also, check out current and former WHL jerseys here.

20. Portland Winterhawks

For starters, there is nothing bad about this jersey visually. Red, white and black is always a great-looking color scheme, and the striping makes for a clean jersey. Unfortunately, the Winterhawks have the big problem of originality. Other than minor changes to the logo, the jersey is identical to the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks. Since you would probably think of the Blackhawks before the Winterhawks when seeing this jersey, it ranks last on our list.

19. Calgary Hitmen

For most of their history, the Hitmen have sported black, copper, red and white. The colors look like too much and don’t exactly mesh well together. The logo doesn’t help either, the black-on-black doesn’t stand out. Overall, the jersey just isn’t nearly as intriguing as the others in the league.

18. Tri-City Americans

Three Americans players listed on NHL Central Scouting midterm rankings – Tri-City Americans

The Tri-City Americans have tried a bunch of designs and color schemes over the years, including this recently-made style. Like the Winterhawks jerseys, this jersey lacks originality. The colors and striping are identical to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Since that jersey is criticized for having too much navy blue and not enough red and white, this jersey receives the same criticism. The logo looks cool, but overall a boring and plain jersey.

17. Vancouver Giants

The Vancouver Giants have always worn red, black, silver and white, and have only had small jersey changes in their history. This isn’t particularly a bad jersey, but it could use improvements. The positioning of the black with only a little white and silver isn’t exactly attractive. There’s also a lot going on in the logo and it’s a bit difficult to decipher.

16. Prince George Cougars

As you may be able to tell, variations of black, red, and white are quite common in the WHL. And no, it is not at all a bad color combination, but there are a handful of teams that pull it off questionably. The Prince George Cougars, for instance, have a red striping running from the collar to below the arms, and thick red and white spots. This jersey just looks weird and could use a simpler design.

15. Swift Current Broncos

After playing around with a few color choices, the Swift Current Broncos settled on a royal blue and green design. The jersey is similar to that of the Vancouver Canucks, but at least is not identical and has some of its own uniqueness. There is nothing bad about this jersey causing a relatively low ranking, but it doesn’t, pop as much as others do. The green all the way down the arms is a bit much, though, and the logo is very plain.

14. Prince Albert Raiders

The Prince Albert Raiders have had a few different jersey designs, keeping the same color scheme for the most part. The green, black, wheat, and white jerseys make for a cool look. The thick wheat stripe going down the sleeves is a bit much. The logo is clever with the hidden “PA” with a sword going through.

13. Regina Pats

The Regina Pats have only made small changes to their iconic “Pats” logo for the last five decades, and only one through a few jersey patterns. The dark blue, red, and white have stayed the same, however. The current design has a simple red and white striping pattern. A fine-looking jersey, but very bland and could use character.

12. Medicine Hat Tigers

The Medicine Hat Tigers have never changes their jersey, making it the oldest jersey still in use. The black, orange and white design is the same as that of the Philadelphia Flyers, but the black and orange are flipped. The only bad part about this jersey is the tiger, who doesn’t look as intimidating as a Tiger should. This is a good jersey, but not much about stands out in comparison to others.

11. Red Deer Rebels

The Red Deer Rebels have never changed their black, burgundy and white jerseys in their history. The jersey is pretty simple, a common design with the burgundy and white stripes. The jersey looks good, but doesn’t exactly catch the eye as some of the others. A lighter red may also pop more off black.

10. Edmonton Oil Kings

Since the Oil Kings returned to Edmonton in 2007, they haven’t changes their design. The Oil Kings sport and red, white, and blue color scheme. The jersey looks very nice, and could be debated as one of the best in the league. It is a very clean jersey, but like the Pats jersey, could use more character.

9. Spokane Chiefs

The Spokane Chiefs have sported just one design in their history, and only modernized the logo over the years. What holds this jersey back from a top spot on this list is the fact that it is identical to the Montreal Canadiens’ home jerseys, arguably the most famous and recognizable hockey jersey in the world. However, it is still a very nice jersey, and in the middle is the feathered “S” logo, one of the coolest in the league.

8. Lethbridge Hurricanes

Despite the large variety of designs over the years, the Lethbridge Hurricanes have always worn red, white and navy blue. The color scheme is pulled off beautifully since their redesign in 2013. The jersey design is simple yet clean, and the logo is very cool.

7. Winnipeg Ice

Getting ready for opening day | The Manitoban

The Ice relocated to Winnipeg in 2019 after about 20 years in Kootenay, BC. Along with the move came the jerseys the Ice wore for their last few seasons in Kootenay. The color scheme of black, silver, and light blue looks phenomenal on a jersey. The colors play off each other well, and so does the logo with the word “Ice” hidden in the left side, an unbelievable touch.

6. Kamloops Blazers

The Blazers have never teetered from the use of blue, orange, and white. Recently, the team simplified the design. They are rolling with a jersey like the Edmonton Oilers, but use navy as the primary as supposed to orange. The jersey has a very clean look, and proves that in some instances, simplicity is key.

5. Victoria Royals

The Royals have had just one jersey design in their ten year history. The royal blue, silver, black and white make for one of the cooler color concepts in the league. Not an overly creative jersey, but the colors down the sleeves look really nice. The logo is also one of the best in the league.

4. Saskatoon Blades

Saskatoon Blades announce camp players list: Team Clark and Team McLellan - DUBNetwork

The Blades have rocked blue, yellow and white for most of their long history. Recently, they came out with a new design that’s likely the best one yet. The jersey really emphasizes the yellow and white in a cool layout that plays off the blue nicely. The logo is a bit simple, but fits. Overall, this is a very fun and nice looking jersey.

3. Brandon Wheat Kings

The Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL) unveil their new jerseys : hockey

One of the oldest WHL franchises, the Brandon Wheat Kings have never changes their black and yellow colors, and only tinkered with the jersey. Now, the Wheat Kings design for 2021. It is quite possibly the best jersey in their history. the stripes look great, the colors play off each other well, and the wheat on the bottom of the jersey gives the jersey character. Although we are only ranking the dark jerseys, both of these are among the best jerseys in the WHL.

2. Seattle Thunderbirds

The Seattle Thunderbirds haven’t seen much change to their navy, green, silver and white jersys since switching the primary color to navy in 1998. The design pays homage to the home jersey that the Hartford Whalers wore for a few years, but the Thunderbirds picked up the design when the franchise moved to Carolina. The colors are amazing and the jersey looks really nice, and includes the iconic Thunderbird logo with “Seattle” written across.

1. Everett Silvertips

Atop our list of WHL jerseys is no other than the Everett Silvertips. It doesn’t get much better than green, silver, gold and white for a color scheme. The incredible looking mountain range on the jerseys pay homage to the famous mountains that run through Washington state. To go with the unique mountain design, the Silvertips’ bear logo fits the jersey beautifully. There are a lot of great WHL jerseys that could be number one, but this one takes the cake.
